Rise in donations will aid students – USM

Call it the Larry Fedora effect. Officials of the Southern Miss Eagle Club say they hit the $2 million mark in contributions, more than $200,000 above the old record.

Dick Vogel, the club’s executive director, said the funds boost can be attributed to some Eagle Club members coming back into the fold in recent months.
It’s apparent that many of those members see the work Fedora is doing with the football program since his hiring last fall as a positive move. Add to that the work that basketball coach Larry Eustachy has done with his team.
In addition, the university has committed to upgrading the athletic facilities, such as the sky boxes at M.M. Roberts Stadium and renovations to Reed Green Coliseum.
The contributions provide funds for scholarships to the school, which will be a significant aid to students.
