Athletic dorms will curb crime
One of the highlights of the SEC basketball media days in years past was the opportunity to listen to coaches Wimp Sanderson, Sonny Smith and Hugh Durham attempt to one-up each other, as though they were comics following each other on open mike night at a comedy club.
One year, Durham spoke of a conversation he had with his son, who was attending Harvard University, about the NCAA’s impending plan to eliminate athletic dorms. As Durham relayed the story of the conversation, he quoted his son as saying, “In real life, there are no athletic dorms.” It’s a statement that implied there is no such environment of protection in the so-called real world.
The elder Durham’s response?
