Barbour appoints Bourgeois to bench

Governor Haley Barbour has named a new circuit judge for the district that covers Harrison, Hancock and Stone counties.

Lawrence P. Bourgeois (BOORZ’-wah) Junior of Pass Christian will replace former Judge Steve Simpson, who left the bench in April to serve as head of the state Department of Public Safety.

The 53-year-old Bourgeois has practiced law for 27 years in the private and public sector. He’s worked in the district attorney’s office in south Mississippi since 1995.
