Pro baseball gets NFC two-sport star Ray – Declines Bama offer
Recent North Florida Christian graduate Melvin Ray said he could be on his way to play rookie baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers as early as this weekend.
Ray told University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban on Monday that he will forgo the athletic scholarship the Crimson Tide offered the former Eagles wide receiver to pursue a pro baseball career.
“My deal is I want to play right now,” Ray said. “I have no vision of going back to football. I plan making it all the way (to Major League Baseball).It’s an opportunity that’s hard to pass up.”
