Jackson police will continue to receive grant money to pay most of the salaries of 14 officers, money the department thought last month it was in jeopardy of losing.
The U.S. Department of Justice, which funds the COPS Universal Hire grant, notified JPD in May that required documentation was missing. Police officials were worried the department would have to pay back thousands of dollars.
“We conducted a site visit a while back, and documentation was not available,” Justice Department spokesman Gilbert Moore said. JPD officials e-mailed the Justice Department on June 2 the missing sworn staffing levels from 1998 to 2008.
