Lee County attorney Jamie Franks will re-enter the statewide political fray this summer when he runs for chair of the Mississippi Democratic Party.
Most party insiders expect Franks, a 35-year-old Mooreville resident, to be unopposed in the election to head the state party.
“I have never run for anything where I have not been challenged,” Franks joked Tuesday afternoon. “But at the present time I know of no one else running.”
The party chair, as well as other statewide Democratic Party officers, will be selected July 12 by the Executive Committee during a meeting in Jackson.
Current chair, Wayne Dowdy of McComb, is stepping down.
