The third meeting of the Governor’s Tax
Study Commission meeting will be available for viewing online, Governor
Haley Barbour announced today.
From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Tax Study Commission meeting can be
seen online at www.governorbarbour.com (click on “Tax Study
Commissionâ€) or through the Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s direct
link, http://tv.mpbonline.org/tax_com.
Today’s meeting is the third gathering of the Governor’s Tax Study
Commission, chaired by businessman Leland Speed. In addition to hearing
from tax experts and featured speakers, members of the Commission will
also listen to citizens and groups who have reserved time to speak
publicly on the state’s tax structure. The Commission will also be
accepting written statements from members of the general public.
In January, Governor Barbour announced the formation of a
public-private commission developed to study Mississippi’s tax code
and recommend reforms. The Tax Study Commission is required to present
its finding and recommendations to the Governor, the Legislature, and
the public on August 31, 2008.
