The lure of cheap gas drew hundreds of people to Speedy Gonzalez EZ Stop on Friday, where congressional candidate Travis Childers fueled vehicles and asked for votes.
The Democratic candidate was joined by U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., for the “Fed Up When You Fuel Up Tour.” As part of the event, which started Thursday in several other cities in the 1st Congressional District, the first 50 motorists got up to 10 gallons of gas for $1.25 a gallon. Regular prices were $3.59.
“The significance of that amount is that it was the average price of gas when Greg Davis was in the Legislature and voted to increase the state gas tax,” Childers said while fueling the car of Verona resident Heather Lagrone.
