The Mississippi Supreme Court has set a May 21 execution date for Mississippi death row inmate Earl Wesley Berry.
Attorney General Jim Hood had requested that Berry be executed Monday for the 1987 slaying of Mary Bounds. The Mississippi Supreme Court set the date for later in the month.
Berry, who turned 49 on Monday, was convicted of kidnapping Bounds from the parking lot of the First Baptist Church in Houston, Miss., on Nov. 29, 1987. He beat her to death then dumped her body in the woods. His confession was used against him at trial.
