Democrats meet to pick delegates

About 300 Democrats in the 4th Congressional District met at Jones County Junior College on Saturday to choose delegates for the national convention.

They collectively seek victory for the Democratic candidate for president, whether it is Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York or Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

“I see a groundswell of support in Mississippi,” said Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, keynote speaker.

The upcoming presidential election is “an outstanding opportunity for Mississippi to elect Democrats up and down the state,” he said.

Issues people are voting on revolve around the economy and the wars, Hood said, mentioning the price of gas and the ongoing war in Iraq.

“If you’re making less than $250,000 a year, you’re cutting off your nose to spite your face if you are voting the Republican ticket,” Hood said.
