Diaz Running Again

Mississippi State Supreme Court Presiding Justice Oliver Diaz will seek a second term on the state’s highest court, he announced today.

“The people of South Mississippi, my family and I have weathered very personal storms together over the past few years. My lengthy trial and subsequent acquittals, followed immediately by the horrors of Katrina, have strengthened not only my personal faith, but my professional resolve to continue to be a fair and honorable jurist. I am grateful for, and humbled by, the support many of you have given me over the past few years. I am also encouraged and inspired by the resilience of our communities to overcome adversity. In this spirit, I seek re-election and ask the people of South Mississippi for your continued support and your vote,” said Diaz.

As a result of Hurricane Katrina, many families are embroiled in legal battles. Justice Diaz knows first hand how difficult these legal procedures can be, and the toll they can take on families. Because of his unique perspective, Justice Diaz believes it is important to elect a Supreme Court Justice who understands the difficulties of prolonged court proceedings and the stakes involved.

“I know we’ve got some rough seas ahead,” Diaz continued. “The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other front groups will spend millions in Mississippi to influence this election on behalf of big insurance, big oil and other huge corporations who have no interest in the rights of individuals. I am confident, however, that voters will not be fooled by the negative messages these enormous corporate entities will produce on behalf of their hand-picked candidate. In this election, more than ever, experience and integrity matter for the preservation of a fair and impartial judiciary.”
