Johnson, Hughes, Prince leave MSU
The player who made the single-most important play of the 2007 football season has left Mississippi State, along with two others.
Junior defensive back Anthony Johnson, who had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown that helped the Bulldogs defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide 17-12 in Starkville, junior linebacker Jamon Hughes and sophomore defensive tackle Rodney Prince have all withdrawn from school, according to the school’s registrar’s office.
The victory over Alabama helped the Bulldogs reach six wins last season and bowl eligibility. Mississippi State finished with an 8-5 record after beating Central Florida at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Johnson, Hughes and Prince were noticeably absent from the spring football game on March 29 and head coach Sylvester Croom did not comment on their absence then and remains silent on the situation.
“When all of the dust settles, then I will have a comment,” Croom told the media following the spring game.
