Harper defeats Ross

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 2, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 4/2/8

Cracking down on illegal immigration and making government more fiscally conservative are two areas Republican 3rd Congressional District nominee Gregg Harper said his campaign would continue to concentrate on during the next six months.

Harper won the GOP runoff Tuesday night, collecting a sizable percentage of the vote over well-known opponent Charlie Ross.

In the November general election, he will face Democrat Joel Gill of Pickens, who won his party’s March 11 primary.

“We will continue to run (the campaign) as hard as we can,” Harper, 51, said. “We will take nothing for granted.”

Gill says he’s making headway with voters the old-fashioned way – shaking hands.
