New judge picked for old Scruggs’ lawsuit
State Supreme Court Chief Justice Jim Smith has appointed retired Court of Appeals Judge Billy Bridges to preside over a lawsuit filed by Dickie Scruggs’ former law partner.
Bridges will replace Hinds County Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter, who stepped down from the case. On Friday, the state Supreme Court temporarily suspended DeLaughter until the state Commission on Judicial Performance can hear allegations made against him that he was corruptly influenced on some of his rulings.
