Farish St. developer announces new delay for tenants

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 26, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/26/8

Several Jackson leaders met Tuesday with Farish Street developer John Elkington to hash out ways to speed progress on the stalled entertainment district and improve communication with the developer.

The solutions included making Ben Allen, president of Downtown Jackson Partners, a liaison between the developer and the city. The city’s planning department director also asked for status reports on each of the buildings included in the project and notice of snags that crop up.

Elkington announced at the meeting that he was unable to make good on his promise to have three preleased tenants moved in by the end of this month because of utility-related problems, which he learned of this month.

The core and shell of the buildings on the east side of the 200 block of Farish Street, or Phase 1, were completed in October. Funny Bone Comedy Club and Cafe, King Biscuit Patio Cafe and Wet Willy’s Daiquiri Bar were supposed to move into their respective locations and begin interior work next week.
