Gregg Harper weighs in on Supreme Court case impacting second amendment rights

Gregg Harper, Republican candidate for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District seat, today made an emotional call for the United States Supreme Court to state once and for all that the right of American citizens to keep and bear firearms is a right belonging to individual citizens, and not subject to being cut off by state law. Harper made the comments while visiting Mississippi State University and supporters in Starkville and Oktibbeha County.

“Today the United States Supreme Court is hearing arguments in the most important Second Amendment case of our lifetimes,” noted Harper. “In the case of District of Columbia vs. Heller, the issue is whether the individual, or only a state militia, has the right to keep and use personal firearms. The wrong decision in this case would be disastrous for personal liberties and personal protection,” Harper continued.

” ‘A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.’ That’s what the Second Amendment to the Constitution says. And that’s exactly what I believe it means,” said Harper.

Harper continued, “Like all freedom loving Americans, I will be watching the Supreme Court closely for its decision on this case involving fundamental freedom and clear constitutional language. As many have said, the Second Amendment is the one that helps keep all the others secure. History has shown over and over what can happen when the government disarms its people. We must not allow that to happen in the United States of America, and I intend to fight for legislation that clearly honors the language of the Second Amendment and the rest of the Constitution of the United States when I get to Congress,” concluded Harper.

Gregg Harper supports the rights of gun owners and sportsmen and is a life member of the National Rifle Association.
