North Mississippi voters will return to the polls April 1 for runoffs to determine the Democratic and Republican nominees for an open congressional seat.
Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers and state Rep. Steve Holland advanced to the Democratic runoff after knocking two other candidates – Calhoun City Alderman Marshall Coleman and Brian Neely of Tupelo – out of Tuesday’s primary.
Former Tennessee Valley Authority chairman Glenn McCullough and Southaven Mayor Greg Davis are headed to the Republican primary after defeating Dr. Randy Russell, an Oxford ophthalmologist.
The Democratic and Republican primary winners will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election as they try to win the seat once held by Republican Roger Wicker. Also on the 1st District general election ballot will be Independent Wally Pang of Batesville and Green Party candidate John M. Wages Jr. of Tupelo.
