AG-contract bill passes House

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 28, 2008

The Sun Herald, 2/28/8

A bill that passed the House would require the state attorney general’s office to disclose more information about its contracts with private lawyers.

“This is referred to in some parts as the ‘Sunshine Bill,’ ” said Judiciary Chairman Ed Blackmon, D-Canton.

He said Tuesday the attorney general would have to notify a state agency director if a lawsuit were being filed to recover money on the agency’s behalf.

Agency officials could tell the governor about the impending lawsuit, but the information could not be disclosed to the public or to the person or company being sued until the suit is filed.
