Judge steps aside in case related to DeLaughter

A special master in a Hinds County court case has resigned, citing concerns a conversation with former Hinds District Attorney Ed Peters may have tainted his credibility to judge the matter.

William Larry Latham of Madison told Circuit Judge Swan Yerger on Monday his resignation was necessary to avoid any appearance of impropriety after Peters spoke with him about the possibility Latham would be appointed to hear the case of Eaton Corp. et al versus Jeffrey Frisby et al. Yerger accepted his resignation.

Peters, who has not been charged with anything, is part of a story told to federal investigators by Joey Langston of Booneville, who pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to one count that he tried to bribe a judge in a legal fees lawsuit.
