Again today, Mitchell must report that he can’t locate his old friend DeLaughter for comment; nor, of course, has anybody espied Ed Peters since approximately the dawn of Scruggsiana; nor will a one of the lawyers involved in Kirk or Eaton give Jerry a moment either. And since Dickie Scruggs wasn’t involved in these case, the poor bloke can’t even phone over to Clarksdale for his de rigueur quote from Charlie Merkel. Phoomph.
He can, however, report that “Frisby’s attorneys are asking Circuit Judge Swan Yerger, who has taken over the case, to review DeLaughter’s decisions: ‘Very serious questions have been raised – and circulated throughout the country – about the relationship of Ed Peters and Judge DeLaughter. In this circumstance, the public interest in seeing that justice has been done impartially requires that the successor judge review these issues.’”
