If you enjoy following politics like I do, this presidential campaign season is just becoming a whole lot of fun. To use a college basketball analogy, it’s like we have reached the Sweet 16 and after Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, the field will be set for the Final Four, with several big names eliminated.
We Mississippians, by the way, will not hold our primaries until March. Normally all would be decided by that time and our state would be ignored, but with the way the races are shaping up, the Magnolia State might be getting a lot of attention after Super Tuesday.
There is no question that evangelical Christians make up a large bloc of votes. And their choice in past years has been fairly predictable. But this time they are not voting in a “bloc.” Despite the fact that Gov. Mike Huckabee is a former Southern Baptist pastor and certainly understands how to talk to us. He clearly understands the conservative Christian world view, if you will. And he subscribes to it, in my view. But for every Tim Wildmon, there is another conservative Christian who doesn’t like the fact that he raised taxes in Arkansas (he says to balance the budget mandated by the state constitution) and the fact that he has no experience on national security or defense issues.
