Al Hopkins offers idea after pleas in Oxford
And what does Langston’s decision to roll over suggest about his political relationship with Hood? Hood was hammered by Republican opponent Al Hopkins of Gulfport in the 2007 election over the outside counsel issue.
In that hard-fought campaign, Hopkins repeatedly reminded voters that Hood has accepted more than $423,000 in contributions from lawyers and law firms who have received state outside counsel contracts over the last four years.
Now that Langston has rolled over, what does Hopkins have to say about his campaign allegations on outside counsel contracts?
“Before the Mississippi Legislature spends its valuable time on new legislation, let me resuggest something I said to you and your Editorial Board recently,” said Hopkins. “It is, of course, a novel idea, and untested in Mississippi for some years, but one might correct the situation by having an attorney general that is honest to his oath of office and follows the law that is in place. Why change a law before it has been used?”
