Political pundits would starve if our livelihood were dependent on accurately predicting what Mike Moore is going to do to.
The prevailing wisdom was that Moore, the former four-term attorney general, always wanted to be a United States senator. So it made perfect sense when Sen. Trent Lott made the surprise announcement last month that he was retiring that Moore would jump in next year’s election to fill the vacant slot.
Politicians eyeing the Senate do not get many opportunities to pursue vacant, thus more winnable seats. For that reason, interested candidates must be willing to pounce when the rare vacancy occurs. Many thought Moore would.
He didn’t.
