Moore: Senate decision crushing for Dems
It was considered a near certainty that Moore would run. Since he chose to pursue private legal practice in 2004, it was common political wisdom that he was itching to be a senator, only biding his time until either Lott, 66, or Sen. Thad Cochran, 70, chose to retire.
But Moore had his own bombshell to drop, on Thursday announcing that he would not seek the post, leaving Mississippi Democrats without a presumed heir, or a considered frontrunner to wrest the seat from the Republicans.
