Bounds, Bryant stress investment in education

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 7, 2007

The Leader Call, 12/6/7

Two statewide officials, speaking at a Citizens of Better Schools event at Laurel High School Wednesday evening, didn’t exactly come out to endorse the Laurel School District’s bond referendum. But, what they did say stressed the importance of an investment into quality schools and how that investment creates dollars and developments for businesses and communities.

State Superintendent of Education Dr. Hank Bounds said Laurel’s citizens should be just as excited about the possibility of a new middle school and renovations at all of the other schools as they are about the Golden Tornadoes playing for the state championship.

Mississippi State Auditor and Lt. Gov.-elect Phil Bryant assured the audience that the Laurel School District hasn’t wasted much money over his term. He said people should quit worrying about that, because his office makes sure state agencies and departments are not misspending tax dollars.
