Jackson mayor still hopes to settle one of 4 suits

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 6, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 12/6/7

Jackson Mayor Frank Melton’s personal attorney said he has tried to settle one of four lawsuits filed against Melton and other city employees.

Phelps Dunbar was hired in August to represent Melton and other city employees. Based upon the firm’s recommendation, the city’s legal division wants the Jackson City Council to hire Coxwell & Associates to defend Melton.

On Wednesday, Melton said he would retain his own attorneys – if needed – to defend himself in all four lawsuits.
