The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 11/9/7
Every four years, the Mississippi Legislature meets for 120 days, rather than 90 days, as instructed by the state’s constitution, but Lt. Gov.-elect Phil Bryant wants to change that, this year, to save taxpayers money.
Bryant on Wednesday unveiled his first initiative, to persuade lawmakers to shorten the upcoming legislative session, with the advice that it would save about $825,000.
That’s the difference in cutting back on per-diem salaries, mileage bills and staffing costs, Bryant said, adding that he and Gov. Haley Barbour “both think we can save taxpayer money. I think it’s a great idea.”
