Attorney General Jim Hood’s campaign on Tuesday disputed a television ad that claimed he’s given lucrative contracts to New York firms that have contributed to his re-election bid, and accused the organization that paid for the ad of hypocrisy.
The black-and-white ad said that “Hood has quietly helped New York City trial lawyers who funded his campaign make millions off of state legal contracts. So what’s it going to be Mr. Hood? Mississippi families or New York City trial lawyers.”
Compretta said the only New York firm to receive money from a legal contract during Hood’s tenure was Bernstein, Liebhard & Lifshitz. The firm represented the state in a securities case on behalf of the Public Employees Retirement System in a class action suit against Cigna Corp., Compretta said. Compretta said he did not know the exact amount that was paid to the law firm.
