The allure of a promising Republican senator drew prominent politicians from Jackson to downtown Hattiesburg Monday as a young candidate from Sumrall officially announced his bid for re-election.
Sen. Joey Fillingane, R-Sumrall, maintained a casual smile at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center as he dispensed handshakes to a receptive crowd of supporters including Gov. Haley Barbour and State Auditor Phil Bryant, who each addressed the crowd of approximately 50 onlookers and urged them to support Fillingane with both their votes and their checkbooks.
