Panel denies city attempt at Farish St. demolitions

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 11, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 7/11/7

The debate between historic preservation and public health and safety on Farish Street continued Tuesday as the Jackson Historic Preservation Commission heard eight more demolition requests for properties in the neighborhood.

The commission denied six demolitions and approved just one – a bungalowlike duplex at 847-49 Farish St. that has been heavily damaged by fire. The commission’s votes Tuesday brought the number of denied demolition cases in the district to 22.
