Mayor takes blame for strife with City Council

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 3, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 7/3/7

Jackson’s crime rate is up, the city still faces a $3.9 million budget shortfall, and discussions about whether to adopt and finance a crime plan submitted by the police chief have dropped to the wayside.

Melton blames himself for the strained relationship with the council and said he must become a catalyst for change.

“I think the first thing that has to happen is that I have to do a better job. I know the direction we’re trying to go in with the city,” he said.
