Lt. governor candidates differ on how they’d pick Senate leaders

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 25, 2007

WMCTV, 6/23/7

1 of the most striking differences among the three candidates for lieutenant governor during a debate today (Saturday) was in how they said they’d appoint chairmen to lead Mississippi Senate committees.

Democrat Jamie Franks says he would choose a diverse group of chairmen — black and white, Democratic and Republican — who “look like Mississippi.”

Republican Phil Bryant says he would consult interest groups, such as teachers, to get their ideas about which senators they’d like to see in leadership roles.
