Attorney general challenges Barbour’s spending veto
Attorney General Jim Hood filed a lawsuit today challenging a veto by Gov. Haley Barbour to keep his office in charge of $5.5 million for youth groups.
Barbour vetoed a bill allowing Hood’s office to spend federal welfare funds on the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mississippi, the Boys and Girls Clubs and other youth programs. Instead, Barbour wants the Department of Human Services to spend the money.
