2 lawmakers ask Barbour for special session to cancel tuition increases

Gov. Haley Barbour should call a special session to utilize $25 million in the state?s rainy day fund in order to cancel tuition increases at Mississippi universities, two lawmakers said today.

The tuition hikes averaging 6 percent for 2007-2008 range from $165 at Alcorn State University to $328 at the University of Mississippi. It is the ninth tuition increase in ten years.
