Governor’s race: Renick drops out

For incumbent Republican Gov. Haley Barbour, things keep getting easier and easier on the re-election campaign trail.

The decision by former Musgrove administration chief of staff and former state legisaltor Bill Renick to drop out of the Democratic gubernatorial primary leaves prominent Madison trial lawyers John Arthur Eaves Jr. attorney John Arthur Eaves Jr. and relative political unknowns William Bond Compton Jr. of Meridian, Elmer ?Louis? Fondren of Gautier and Fred Smith of Aberdeen as the potential Democratic challengers to Barbour. Barbour also faces GOP challenger Frederick L. Jones of Gulfport.
