When Gov. Haley Barbour and candidates for the Legislature come seeking your vote, ask them what they plan to do about this state’s teacher shortage.
While the state offers incentives for teachers to work in critical need schools and subject areas, stable pay remains the top retention and recruitment tool. Catch as catch can just isn’t good enough. Raises should be budgeted annually, not based on politics.
