By: Magnolia Tribune - April 13, 2007

Rebuffed candidates try to get on ballotsHearings are pending in other candidacy cases assigned by the Supreme Court:

Circuit Judge Billy Joe Landrum of Laurel will hear the appeal of state Rep. Mary Ann Stevens, D-West, to get back on the ballot in the Democratic primary in House District 48. The district is composed of parts of Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Holmes, Humphreys and Leake counties. Stevens has been in the Legislature for 28 years.

Circuit Judge R.I. Prichard III of Picayune will hear the appeal of state Rep. John Hines, D-Greenville, who is challenging the candidacy of Democratic opponent Margaret Holling. A judge has not been appointed to hear Holling’s challenge to Hines’ candidacy in House District 50 in Washington County. Hines has been in the House since 2001.

Circuit Judge Henry Lackey of Calhoun City will hear the appeal of Insurance Commissioner George Dale. Dale, who has been insurance commissioner since 1976, was removed from the ballot as a Democrat after some party members questioned his loyalty. He had endorsed Republican President George W. Bush in 2004.
