Nic Lott noodles on District 34 Senate Seat

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 26, 2007

Statement by Nic Lott concerning Campaign for Open Seat in Senate District 34

Due to the overwhelming media inquires regarding the announcement by State Senator Billy Thames that he would not seek reelection to the Senate where he currently represents Senate District 34, Mississippi Forward founder Nic Lott has issued the following statement:

“I am humbled by the community and civic leaders of Jasper, Jones, Scott, and Smith counties who have inquired about my becoming a candidate for the State Senate seat currently held by my friend Senator Billy Thames.

Upon Senator Thames’ announcement that he will not be seeking another term, both my family and I have considered the possibility of my continuation in public service by seeking this opportunity to represent my home and my community. Over the next two weeks, Jaye and I will reach out to citizens throughout the district and make a decision on how best to move forward.

I know how important it is to the people of District 34 to have a representative who cares about our children getting a good education, someone who will fight for our seniors and their right to the best quality healthcare, and someone who believes strongly in promoting small businesses.

My family and I will continue to pray about this important decision.”

Nic is a resident of Taylorsville and currently serves as Spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. A former aide to Senator Trent Lott and Congressman JC Watts, Nic gained national attention when he was elected the first African American Student Body President at Ole Miss. He is married to Jaye Espy of Clarksdale.

Mississippi Forward Political Action Committee was founded by Taylorsville, MS resident Nic Lott to encourage young, progressive, conservative leaders in Mississippi. For more information contact Howie Morgan at 662-832-8882.
