Health & Human Services Secy. Visits WLBT

You will soon be able to get prescription drug coverage through Medicare. You should start receiving information about this new program in October.

The coverage will be good news for people age 65 or older, or who qualify for Medicare because of a disability. It will include virtually all medically necessary drugs. In addition, you will be able to choose between a host of plan options, from basic coverage to full, catastrophic coverage.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt visited theWLBT Morning Show Thursday to explain more about it. He says you can decide for yourself if it’s right for you.

“They will hear from their prescription drug carrier, who will likely tell them, if you’re happy, stay where you are, and the government is going to write us a check to make certain that you’re able to keep it,” Secretary Leavitt says. “Once a year there will be an enrollment period, where they can change plans.”
