Bottom line? Diverse groups want Melton to be successful

Optimism, hope and expectations. Election nights usually are brimming with great expectations, but Frank Melton’s backers were overflowing with it last Tuesday.

But there was more to Melton’s post-election celebration last week than the usual back-slapping and political gloating.

First, it was clearly one of the most diverse political gatherings that could be imagined or intentionally put together. It not only crossed party and racial lines, but city political factions that seldom speak. It may not last a week, but for someone who has watched Jackson politics as long as I have, it was something to behold.
