Police Targeted in Shootout

The damage from Wednesday’s shootout in west Jackson could have been much worse. Police now say the shooter had more than two hundred bullets waiting to be fired. That’s in addition to the estimated eighty rounds 23-year-old Willie McGregory fired at police.

Inside McgGegory’s father’s tire store police discovered the bullets and two 50-round clips. During interrogations, police say he has expressed no remorse and even said he tried to kill them all.

“Right now we don’t know what was on his mind other than he intended to kill a police officer that day,” said JPD spokesperson Lt. Robert Graham.

The investigation is still ongoing and three JPD officers have been placed on administrative leave. Lt. Graham says McGregory is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, and more charges may be coming. The only person injured in Wednesday’s shootout was the trigger man. It all began with a routine traffic stop.
