JPD upgrade year from completion
Reconstruction of Jackson’s police headquarters on Pascagoula Street is 45 percent complete and should be ready for occupancy by spring 2006, a city official said Monday.
“What they are doing now is working the energy-performance upgrades and the interior construction at the same time,” City Chief Administrative Officer Otha Burton said.
Cost of renovating the 54-year-old building is $1.7 million over the originally approved budget but should be completed on time. Contractors are reworking the interior of the third and final phase of what now is a $11.1 million upgrade. Changes include new holding cells, heating and cooling units, and keycard access.
