Chief – Moore may go, or not, or whatever
Jackson Police Chief Robert Moore said last week that it is just time for him to “shut it down,” and that he planned to ask Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. to name an interim chief until a new administration takes over in July.
He said he would not be making any more major decisions.
Johnson, apparently is licking his political wounds and is not talking to the media, but said through a spokesman he would name an interim chief at an “appropriate time.” Then Moore said later he would be willing to stay until his contract expires June 30 and timing was “sort of up in the air.”
Seems like business as usual in the final days of the Johnson administration – no timetables, no urgency with police department affairs and, of course, no major decisions.
There is one timetable, however, that Johnson and Moore cannot control. There will be a new mayor come July 5. That major decision has been made by the voters.
Moore and the Johnson administration could at least “shut it down” with one definitive decision on how to shut it down. Guess not.
