Jackson child recovering from gunshot wounds as police search for kidnappers

An 11-year-old Jackson child is recovering this morning from wounds she received late Tuesday when two armed and masked gunmen shot and kidnapped her after breaking into her south Jackson home, police said.

Danasha Scott was shot in the arm and the side about 10:45 p.m. immediately after two males wearing masks and dark clothing broke down the door of a home at 869 Monterey Street off Belvedere Drive, Jackson police spokesman Robert Graham said.

The men tore the home’s phone from a wall and left the home in a dark-colored, small- to mid-sized vehicle with Danasha, who managed to escape in the vicinity of Sumac Street, Graham said.

He said he didn’t know any details on how she got away.

She hid in bushes, then knocked on the door of a nearby home but didn’t get an answer, Graham said. The child hid in a vehicle until about 6 a.m., when she tried knocking on the same home’s door.
