Mayoral candidates square off tonight
A debate tonight at Jackson State University will feature at least two of the city’s three Democratic mayoral candidates, organizers said.
Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. and challenger Annell Smith are scheduled to square off, JSU public relations representative Eddie Brown said.
Carolyn Redd, Frank Melton’s campaign manager, said she offered to send a surrogate as Melton has a previous engagement but has not heard back from JSU.
The debate is sponsored by the Political Science Club and begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Rose McCoy Auditorium on the corner of Lynch and Prentiss streets.
