Hood gets mad at Barbour for his veto of bill with anti-tort reform implications
Hood: Barbour ‘sold out Mississippi’s children’ The bill would not make any changes to tort reform laws, Hood said, because “innocent sellers are already protected under the Mississippi Consumer Protection Act.” Last year, some 20 million products were recalled causing about 400,000 serious injuries, said Hood, a Democrat. In a statement, Barbour, a Republican, said…

CL: Hood: Barbour ‘sold out’ children
Gov. Haley Barbour “sold out Mississippi’s children” when he vetoed a bill dealing with lead paint and children’s toys, Attorney General Jim Hood said in a statement urging the Legislature to override the governor’s decision. Barbour took action on House Bill 1240 last week. It takes a two-thirds vote in both chambers to pass a bill the governor has vetoed. In a news release, Barbour said the legislation would undermine tort reform laws. Enactment of the bill “will result in hindering the positive results of the Tort Reform Act of 2004 in ending lawsuit abuse in Mississippi,” Barbour said.

Legislature ’08: Personnel board bill should die
The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 4/8/8 No one should lament the demise of the bill that would allow department heads at 25 state agencies to fire employees without the approval of the Personal Board.
