District 28 Representative, Robert Foster (R), took to Facebook over the weekend to announce he is considering a run for Governor in 2019.
In the video Foster asks the people what they want to see in their next Governor, and would they want to see that from him. Foster is a farmer and small business owner in Desoto County. He serves as the President of Cedar Hill Farm, Inc. in Love, MS.
In an interview on Monday, Foster told Y’all Politics his desire to run comes from conviction to offer Mississippian’s more options on the ballot.
“I feel a conviction to run, a deep calling to do so.” said Foster. He said he believes there are a large amount of people across the state that are looking for a “different kind of candidate” and he believes he fits that mold.
Already in the race for Governor is Attorney General Jim Hood (D), Petal Mayor Hal Marx (R) and rumored to soon enter is Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves (R).
When asked what he thought of a potential opponent against Lt. Governor Tate Reeves he said he would be running a clean campaign.
“I think the Lieutenant Governor is a good man and a great public servant, but we differ a lot on backgrounds and I think that if we allow people to have choices on the ballot it’s a good thing not a bad one,” said Foster.
While Foster has not officially said whether or not he will enter the race money is not a concern.
“I’m running to run and give people a choice. If the money comes it comes, regardless of how it comes I’ll use it to the best of my ability,” said Foster.
Foster has served in the Mississippi House of Representatives for three years. Last year, Foster authored legislation to address issues like sales tax, to increase infrastructure revenue, an abortion bill, and an Ad valorem tax that would have exempt certain business personal property from.
