Pro-Life organization makes independent expenditure for Hyde-Smith campaign in #mssen

By: Sarah Ulmer - October 17, 2018

The Susan B. Anthony List is a non-profit organization with one goal, “to end abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.”

In the current election cycle SBA List has reported an independent expenditure for one of Mississippi’s Senate candidates in the special election, Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.

As third quarter reports came out, SBA List reported two independent expenditures for a direct mail piece in support Hyde-Smith’s camp totaling $10,410.00.

“I have always been pro-life, and I am honored to receive this support and endorsement from the Susan B. Anthony List. We must work together to end abortion and stand up for the littlest among us,” said Hyde-Smith.

President Trump headlined the organizations annual fundraising gala “Campaign for Life” in May amidst criticism from the media for participating in a pro-life organizations function. The organization ultimately want’s Roe vs. Wade off the books, and operates under the belief that Anthony was against abortion.

The organization has gone so far to say that this President has been the most pro-life president in the nations history.

“President Donald Trump is governing as the most pro-life president in our nation’s history and Susan B. Anthony List is honored to receive him at our annual Campaign for Life Gala,” BA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, who also served as national campaign chair for the Trump campaign’s Pro-life Coalition.

Since 1992, SBA List has financed and endorsed over 110 candidates who won their elections for seats in congress.

They support candidates in three key ways:

  • Direct Support: The SBA List Candidate Fund contributes directly to selected campaigns
  • Bundled Checks: The SBA List asks members to contribute to the endorsed candidates of their choice, making the checks payable to the campaigns. The checks are then collected by the SBA List Candidate Fund, “bundled” together with other members’ checks and sent to the candidates
  • Independent Expenditures: The SBA List Candidate Fund runs Independent Expenditure Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) programs in targeted districts, designed to turn out pro-life voters on Election Day.
