A week after Arkansas’ Joe Adams returned a punt 97 yards for a touchdown, Auburn’s Washington took a kickoff 95 yards to the house for a score, giving the Tigers a 31-17 lead that sucked the oxygen out of Vaught-Hemingway.
It was fitting, perhaps, that minutes later, Ole Miss officials asked fans to put on their 3-D glasses for a halftime film on the jumbotron. The glasses were tinted red and blue, and only through the prism of red and blue spectacles could anyone have maintained any hope of a happy ending for the home team from Saturday’s contest.
