AUBURN — Publicly, Auburn coaches were expressing confidence in quarterbacks Chris Todd and Kodi Burns.
Privately, they were urgently seeking an insurance publicly.
Two years ago, in the summer of 2008, then-head coach Tommy Tuberville and offensive coordinator Tony Franklin were quietly courting junior college quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.
At the time, Masoli wasn’t a household name, but he was considered a promising prospect from the City College of San Francisco who could compete immediately for playing time.
